What is SURGITENT?

SURGITENT® is a surgical isolator system based on the concept of a glovebox isolator. It creates a closed operation space filled with HEPA filtered air, thus creating a miniaturized operation room just where it is needed - at the incision site! This downsizing allows to perform surgery wherever it is needed:
-
From the traditional OR, where it saves time and money spent on drapes, gowns and cleaning
-
through ambulatory care in the doctor's office
-
to surgeries in remote areas, disaster or war zones.
By doing so, it is not even a compromise to the fully equipped OR: By creating a physical barrier between patient and the HCP it helps further reducing infection rates and protects surgeons and OR staff from infectiuous spray and fumes.
It even is a huge step forward, helping sustainability as it avoids a significant amount of waste of drapes and gowns and cleaning agents, as all contamination stays inside the tent. SURGITENT is a class 1s (sterile) medical device and MDR certified by BSI.

Concepts and features of SURGITENT
Challenge
Growing demand for surgical care leads to:
-
Cost explosion in health care
-
Capacity constraints in hospitals (ORs and personnel)
Concept
Economy
Efficiency
Enabling
Feature
Little cost relative to potential savings
Makes major parts of the draping and gowning process obsolete
Can be used in traditional OR but can transform any room
into an OR
User Benefit
-
No investment in OR required
-
Savings in OR-minutes and materials outweigh the cost of a SURGITENT
-
Additional savings considering sustainability and safety effects
OR Time savings by
-
Less setup time for draping and gowning of patient, personnel and instruments
-
Less cleaning & drying time between surgeries
-
More surgeries can be performed outpatient in an ambulatory setting
-
Throughput in traditional OR can be increased
-
Waiting times for emergencies can be reduced (also improving outcomes)
Challenge
Linited access to clean
operation facilities
Concept
Mobility

Independence
Feature
-
Light weight (approx. 1.5 kg), small (approx 0.2 m³)
-
Electricity free, sets up quickly only by pumping air into the supporting structure
User Benefit
-
Can be easily taken to the place of use
-
Can be used in situations where electricity is not reliably given (disaster, war, rural area, developing country)
Challenge
Challenges to the
environment by waste
Concept
Sustainabiity
Feature
-
Making loads of drapes and gowns obsolete
-
Containment of fluids and waste
User Benefit
-
Savings in purchasing single use or cleaning multiple use drapes & gowns
-
Less cleaning effort required (less cleaing agent)
Challenge
Still significant number of surgical site infections
Concept
Efficacy
Feature
> than OR enclosure
User Benefit
-
Reduction of surgical side infects
Challenge
Too high rate of HCP infections
Concept
Increase HCP safety
Feature
Two way barrier HCP <-> patient
User Benefit
-
Reduction of HCP infections
-
Reducing the risks involved in high risk patient surgery (HIV, Ebola)
